Vacation

Ok, other than dealing with typical airline bullshit that I don't want to get into, my vacation was great.  Miami was fun, Gordon Biersch was truly magnificent, I especially loved their Maertzen.  Got on the ship and had a wonderful time for the most part.  Cozumel was great, did a two tank dive there and the reefs, especially the wall we dove first were spectacular.  Grand Cayman was just as good.  Jamaica I could do without, mostly because I didn't like getting hassled every step I took to buy something or have someone get me a taxi or sell me illegal drugs.  I also didn't like the piles of garbage everywhere, but otherwise, Dunn's River Falls was great and so was the river tubing we did.

Here's some good pics

Looks like you had a nice vacation...what did you miss?

A tie game where both teams had at least a million chances to break the tie in the second half. Where both teams could not play organized on defense. In that game we also saw David Beckham do what he is famous for.

Comments about officiating that got coach Kries suspended.

You missed RSL FINALLY sending the underachieving Talley away.

And a game where RSL played a little sloppy, survived a rocket goal by Cooper and managed to get a win anyway. Oh yea, and there was also that shot by Duecher that relocated the left goal post to somewhere in Davis County.

I also got to witness Chris Cannon, the worst congressman Utah has had since Alan Howell, get within a handful of votes of loosing his job.

I would also like to appeal to the voters of Utah's 3rd congressional district to please fire Chris Cannon now that you have the chance. Please vote in the Primary election on June 24th. I'm afraid that if he survives this challenge it will be up to God to release him from Congress.

Thanks for the update!  As for Cannon, could be worse, he could be Chris Buttars.  I live in the 1st District so I get to deal with Rob Bishop (someone please wake him from his nap, it's time for a vote!) but Cannon, well, who knows.  3rd District to me has always been a bit interesting who they choose; this is the same district that elected Merrill Cook and Enid.  I'm not convinced that anyone running from that district is really any better than Cannon, which is pretty sad.

As for the RSL win, haven't had a chance to watch yet, and since I have to catch up a week's worth of everything, I don't know if I'll get a chance any time soon.  As for Talley being gone, all I can say is thank god for that.  Carey, don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out!  You were great in 2006, but since then, I'm sick of you not doing anything useful and not having any of the 2006 fire in you anymore.

I was a GOP delegate for the 1st congressional district. Bishop's message resonates well many of the fiscal conservatives in Northern Utah. I, for one, and sick of Republicans blaming Pelosi, et al for their lack of progress. Apparently I am not the only one, but Bishop did not get challenged from within the party.

That was exactly the message that Chaffetz brought to the convention (we are sick of y'all sitting on your duff and pointing fingers) and it resonated well. That is why Cannon is sweating bullets.

In this state the only way to bring someone down who deserves to go out is to challenge someone from within the party. Perhaps we will only bring them down one at a time, but it is progress. Bishop's message will get old real quickly, but I feel that Bennett is next.

This is really what I hate about sound-bite politics.  Bishop does very little in Congress, has done next to nothing to distinguish himself there, but because he delivers the prepared speech that has been prepared in such a way as to slip the sound-bite in and make sure it gets played on the evening news, people love his message.  Much as I dislike Hatch, I can't say he doesn't do anything and has not made an impact on the Senate.  Bob Bennett is in serious trouble.  I believe you are right in your assessment that a challenge in this state really has to come from inside the party.  It actually is very similar to how things were in the South in the 1960s before Baker v. Carr changed so much.  For an interesting read about that, Jimmy Carter's Turning Point is a good illustration of that.  The Democratic primaries where the real election then (oh and I detest Jimmy Carter as a politician, even though his philanthropy is great, but the book is a pretty good primary source for what happened, so got to give him that much credit).

I am more of a Reagan Democrat myself and I am still undecided about the whole thing, I prefer Obama over McCain, if he makes it past the convention but McCain over Clinton.  Hilary has always bothered me, especially now.
