Seattle is having an online www.mlsinseattle.com/uploadedFiles/Home/Vote/vote.html href="http://www.mlsinseattle.com/uploadedFiles/Home/Vote/vote.html" target="_blank">vote for the name of their team.  It would be a huge shame and an insult to the history of soccer in Seattle to not name the team the Sounders.  The Sounder name goes back to the old NASL days and the team has been a part of the city in one form or another since then.  The Sounders name says soccer to someone in Seattle, just like a pretentious, Euro-style name like Seattle FC.  MLS has enough names like that already, and besides, can't we be more original than the Canadians?  The top 3 choices are pretty stupid in my opinion; the Seattle Alliance, sorry but no, sounds like an insurance agency; Seattle FC, can we get a little original here maybe?; or the Seattle Republic, sounds like a good name for a newspaper or something. 

Of course, I remember having a vote like this in Salt Lake before the 2005 season.  I would much prefer to be the Utah Highlanders (for those who have seen me at games, you can probably figure out why), which is what won in the fan voting if I remember correctly.  Instead we are stuck with quite possibly the stupidest name in MLS, which is saying something considering this league did feature the likes of the Dallas Burn and the Kansas City Wiz (combine those two and you have a real problem you may want to see a doctor about).  Maybe there is hope that Seattle will do something inspired and name the Sounders.  What the hell am I thinking, this is MLS we're talking about here.
