First, I have been sick with what seems to be the never ending cold from hell, so I haven't felt up to posting much this week. I'm finally getting over it, so things are back to being good.
Ok, first, RSL won their first two exhibition matches. Not sure what can be really learned from these two matches as the competition wasn't terribly good, a PDL team and a City College team. That said, 7-0 with four goals from Movsisyan in the second half is pretty impressive regardless of the competition. I think we will have a better understanding of what to expect this year when RSL faces the cRapids in Florida. The cRapids picking up Christian Gomez is a really interesting move. What I really want to know about Colorado is who are the going to trade us this year for our garbage? I would really like to see Hercules come in, maybe we can give them say Besagno or another one of our reserves for him. I really hate the offseason, why can't it be March yet?
Every time I hear Garth, the more I think he was the right move. I think that he truly does understand what's going on, what the issues facing RSL are and has a good plan of attack for dealing with them. Ultimately, though, the only thing that matters are results, so we have to see what happens. I do like how the team is finally learning that to build a team, you start with the back line. Ian Joy seems to be a good fit. According to rumor, Nat Bourchers is also going to be signing with RSL. I think for once we will have a solid back line with some depth. We will always miss Eddie Pope, but Eddie, while great, could not do everything. Our midfield looks pretty good too. Really my only concern is our forward line. I think we have some good guys in Findley, Espindola and Movsisyan, but I think we're still a bit thin, especially if Findley misses a lot of time with the U-23s at the Olympics. Hopefully the guy being brought in for a trial from Singapore turns out to be a good addition. Other than the lack of depth of our forward line as it stands right now, I think the team is off to a good start. We really can't say anything definitive until the season starts though.
