Watson

I'm sad, but yet relieved to see Jamie Watson was finally released.  I wish RSL would have at least given him a chance.  It was pathetic how little he was ever given the chance to play.  The times he did see the field, he showed well.  I'm not convinced with the draft that RSL significantly improved and I am just bracing myself to see what gets picked up from an international signing.  I will for now reserve total judgment until the preseason as we have little idea what the team will look like at this point.  I will say I really think this constant rebuilding is not helping the team at all.  I can only imagine the climate in the locker room with nobody secure about their future.  The good teams in this league are the ones who are stable, who the core of the team has been together for years and who have good management and coaching.  Jason Kreis is certainly not Steve Nichol or Dominic Kinear.  Hell, he's not even on the level of Frank Yallop or Peter Nowak.  I think his only real peer in terms of talent is Fernando Clavijo (and right now, I don't want to spend the money to start www.firejasonkreis.com).

Also, thank you Jamie for always taking the time for the fans.  That will truly be missed.  I just wish that the organization as a whole would understand that you need to support the fans.  I truly think that the RSL nation is now a little bit weaker without Watson simply because he was one of those players who "got" it when it came to the fans.  I hope he finds the road ahead prosperous.

I agree 100% with your observation that the best teams are the ones that are built around an stable core of players, but I do not share your worry that the constant rebuilding is going against that idea.

The fact is that RSL has not and does not have that core and until we do get it we have to rotate players in and out.

Today our stable core consists of Rimando, Talley and Williams off the bench. That's it. Everyone else was added in the past year. Beckerman and Mantilla will hit a year this season.

With the new players from last year and this off-season we had darn well better have a stable core by the end of the year. If not, then we will need to make massive changes again, but with new people making the changes.

See, that's the problem, the team was never started with an eye to having a core.  Here we are in year four and we are in a situation very similar to what we had going into year 1.  I think the problem was identified last year and moves like picking up Beckerman and Sturgis were the start of it.  It's just frustrating how it seems we've wasted the last 3 years just treading water.
