The Wiz

Whoever came up with team names at the beginning of MLS really needed to think harder.  Mix the Wiz and the Burn and you've got problems.

Imagine how depressed I was when I got home right before the half and fired up my computer to catch the match on mlslive.tv.  I got to catch Espindola's goal, which was beautiful.  There were three goals that could win GOTW from this match.  Andy Williams' almost half field shot was so much fun to watch and then to hear RCB telling Hartman it was all his fault was priceless.  I guess no Samba Gringa last night either.

Tactically, I think with a good attacking mid in Espindola, we finally have the midfield pieces together.  No sooner did we get a good defensive mid in Beckerman than we lost both our attacking mids in Adu and Ballouchy and we've been suffereing ever since.  Ideally if you can build from the back to the d-mid to the a-mid, you're doing a good job and finally RSL was able to do that.  I think we finally have the pieces we need, too bad it's too late to really salvage this year.

In other news, Sparta lost to Arsenal at the Emirates 3-0 with a goal from Rosicky.  What's really depressing is that Slavia got past Ajax to make it to the group stage.  At least Rangers advanced.

Yeah, if you've got a solid defense into the CDM then add your CAM and wingers you'll be in decent shape. However, you never know how many opportunities you'll net if you don't have a back-to-goal forward to complement those lads coming forward. After that if you can get one more striker with flair you've got a winning team. Pretty easy on paper, huh?

As for Arsenal, did you think Sparta had a chance after the first match in Prague? I don't think so... So, the CL draw is going to happen tomorrow even without the results from Sevilla.

Finally - RIP Puerta, #16. Our hearts are in Sevilla! Somebody's gotta find a Ray Hudson quote for the lad...

On the Prague leg, Sparta looked to be the better team for the bestter part of 70 minutes.  If it wasn't for Crazy Jens, it could very easily have been 2-0.  That said, having finally watched the replay from Czech TV, the leg at the Emirates was all Arsenal after Rosicky's goal.

As for RSL, I agree they still lack the target type forward who can play back to the goal.  I think this is what they were hoping Atiba the Hun would turn into but I think they finally gave up on the project.  They were also looking for Eskandarian to play that way, but he's not quite that sort of forward.  As for the one playing with flair, they did have Jeff Cunningham, probably the best flair type forward in MLS.  Findley has been playing well, but he's still not at Cunningham's level.  I am not intent on sacking Kreis just yet, but with the pieces in place that they have, I think that if wins don't start coming, he will be in trouble.  At the very least, they need to win 3 more so they at least do better than their first year.  I especially want to win the two against Colorado because that would get us the Rocky Mountain Cup and since I'm on the C-10 committee, that would give me a whole year to talk about it to the cRapids fans.
