So much fun. First I find out that I with the Saturday class I have (Intro to Film Studies) starts this week instead of next. On my way to class (at the WSU Davis campus), my car lost it's power steering belt which before I could pull off whipped around and hit a radiator hose which burst. I lost the power steering and then heard a bang, and saw smoke coming out from under the hood that smelled like anti-freeze. Luckily I just had to coast down a hill to get to class. After stewing on it for 3 hours, and of course learning about the beginning of motion pictures and how the technology works and developed and watching a few silent film clips including The Great Train Robbery and one with Buster Keaton in it, I ended up calling a tow truck and taking it into a shop I do business with just up the street. Thankfully my dad was available and came and picked me up.
So far the semester is good, but my two big classes are Wednesday so can't much yet. The seminar I had about U.S. Foreign Policy and the Iraq War was great, already starting to do the research for the paper for the class. Following the money in the Zionist Lobby in Washington (which even filters down to Utah, Orrin Hatch accepted over 7,000 from PACs that represent Zionist interests for example). Interesting and the implications are a little scary. If you want to read an interesting book, read Peter Bergen's The Osama bin Laden I Knew. Best book on bin Laden out there in my opinion. I just reserved a copy of George Tenet's book at the library, I've been looking forward to reading that one. Yes seems anymore I don't get to read novels, I get to read non fiction about foriegn policy, mostly about Soviet foriegn policy but quite a bit about U.S. Middle Eastern policy (which in my opinion is way screwed up, I think that the big picture of trying to bring democracy to the Middle East is flawed and is bound to fail and probably not desireable for the U.S. as with the oil deposits stability is essential).
Ok for soccer, RSL at the Goats. After the cRapids I hate the Goats more than anyone else. I hate what the team is all about, as they said, brining "futbol" to America. Basically, Guaralajara wanted a place to develope players and MLS finally realized that just because someone's skin is brown they aren't going to show up to soccer unless you give them a better reason than it's in town. For now I think these two interests compliment each other, but I don't know if Chivas' interest will continue to overlap with MLS' interests. I think there may have been better ways to reach out to the Hispanic community than making the deal with Guadalajara. For example, in the case of RSL, how about actually making an effort to reach out to the Hispanic community. Again, DC shows they are the class of the league in this department. This is why supporter's groups are important. For people who know soccer from other countries, they expect to have crazy fans jumping around, singing and playing drums. They come to MLS and the atmosphere is generally not there and the soccer, while getting better, really doesn't distinguish itself.
For the game, Chivas is playing well right now. They finally won a Superclassico (what a dumb name for a series that dates back to 2005, how can it be a classic?) over David Beckham+10. In Beck's defense, he got back from the friendly between England and Germany at like 12:30 am and had to have been tired. I like Galindo, he will be a future impact player in the league (if he sticks around). Sacha Kljestan I think is going to get to know Atiba Harris after what he did this spring to Andy Williams. RSL has never fared well against Chivas at the Home Depot Center, I don't see this changing. I do see Atiba getting shown a red if he plays. Should be interesting but I don't think it will be all that close. I'm going to call 3-0 for the Goats.
