I don't know what to say other than how many chances can you get without finishing one?  Seems to be the story of the year, RSL getting enough chances to win but not finishing any of them while the opponent does finish and wins.  Much as I don't like Blanco and, after last night, his fans, When you give a player of his caliber that much space to shoot, he's going to put it in.  Great move by the league to sign him really as we had an announced (I know that MLS fudges the numbers) attendance of over 18,000 and a good chunk of the increase was definately the Blanco fans.

The reffing in the league really needs to improve.  It amazes me that guys you see reffing pub league games show up at RES and ref the MLS game.  And people wonder why the rest of the world looks at MLS as a glorified pub league.  Ref was again truly aweful.  That's not an excuse for RSL not finishing, but it just gets so frustrating as a former ref seeing these guys and seeing just how poor they are.  And to really make it worse, you turn on a game from anywhere else in the world and they have refs who actually do a good job.  Right now I'm watching Chel$ki-Liverpool and the ref is keeping good control of the match, letting the players play and only getting involved when he has to.  The same can be said of the Newcastle-Villa match I watched this morning.  Quality reffing is something that MLS needs to be taken seriously, they have the players and the quality teams (as Superliga has done a good job of showing).

In other news David Beckham is starting to really turn it on.  I'm not a fan of Beckham's hype, but he truly is the most dangerous dead ball player (other than maybe Gerrard, his goal last week against Villa was truly amazing) in the world.  Now hopefully Beckham's MLS account is now open, we can get to watching football and not Beckham.  I really got sick of seeing Beckham scratching his foot while he sat on the bench while the game was going.  IF you listen to ESPN, there seems to be only one player on the pitch and that's a shame.  As for Beckham being made skipper of LA, all I can say is what took so long?  The rumors surrounding Landon Donovan's reaction cover the spectrum from it was Donovan's idea to he's completely upset and wants to be traded now.  Regardless of that, I don't think there's a manager anywhere in any league at any level who would not make Beckham captain over Donovan.  Let's see, Beckham has captained Manchester United toa Champion's League title.  He's captained England.  Donovan has captained the United States (which is nowhere near like captaining England) and LA to an MLS cup.  Not even something you can compare.

And Paul, great talking to you, there is always an open invitation to talk to us and you, as well as anyone else are welcome to the RCB tailgate when you're in town.  Even cRapids fans are welcome to the tailgate.  By the way cRapids, thanks for Beckerman.

Still think the ref in the Liverpool-Chelsea match did a good job?

Face it, MLS referreeing level is commensurate with the level of play at this point in time. And even refs in the highest of leagues make mistakes that impact important games. Give the MLS refs a break

No that ref did not, but the difference is that in the EPL, you can't pick every single game played and find a poor example of a referee like you can in MLS.  The difference is that in the EPL I would rate the general performance of the referees as good to excellent (with some exceptions) while in MLS the overall rating would be poor (with some exceptions).  As for level of play matching the referees, I am not going to disagree with you there, but that opens up the question of is the level of play in MLS adversely affected by the quality of the referees?  I would have to answer that as a yes.  The referees in MLS are holding back the development of the league's level of play.

I say this as someone who has 15 years refereeing experience.  MLS really needs to consiously make an effort to inprove the skill of the referees.  One way to do it would be to team with other leagues around the world (like their existing agreement with the Bundesliga) and maybe even send refs over on something like an exchange program.  This would really work well right now where the seasons are for the most part not simultaneous.  Especially if you had them ref some lower division games and then also brought in some of their refs in a mentoring program.  Just a suggestion that seems worth at least trying.
